Washington Wizards and Capitals Fans Get 15 (More) Seconds of Fame as Monumental Sports Renews Deal With Spectator App
Monumental Sports & Entertainment and spectator app 15 Seconds of Fame have extended their partnership to continue using an image-recognition system at Capital One Arena during Washington Wizards and Washington Capitals home games.
Fans at Capital One Arena can upload a selfie to the 15SOF mobile app to receive video clips of their faces when captured by broadcast TV cameras or in-stadium video boards. Monumental originally partnered with 15SOF in 2017. The company also currently has deals with multiple teams across the NBA, NFL, MLB and NHL, as well as league-level deals with the NBA and MLB that were extended in October.
“More than ever, fans have a desire to uniquely show their team pride and share significant memories on social media, and we believe 15SOF is the ideal platform to do so,” Hunter Lochmann, chief marketing officer at MSE, said in a statement.
15 Seconds of Fame expects to start streaming events in 2022 by “tying people’s seat ticket and their movement with our artificial intelligence,” co-founder Adam Resnick told SportTechie in October. The idea is for the app to send game streams or highlights to an in-venue fan’s phone as soon exit their seating section for trips to the concession stand or bathroom, for example.
